Gene has been a licensed attorney since 1981. Gene has also made numerous court appearances in criminal, civil, immigration and bankruptcy cases. Gene received his undergraduate degree, in Political Science, from the University of Nevada, Reno. He received his Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law, San Diego, Ca.

Gene opened his current law office, Law Office of Gene E. O’Brien P.C., in Palm Desert, California in 2009.

Gene has served as Chief Tribal Judge for the Walker River Piaute Tribe, Election Appeals Judge for the Fallon Nevada Paiute Tribe, Associate Judge for the Inter-Tribal Court of Appeals, Nevada and California and an Associate Judge for the Court of Appeals for the Yavapai Apache Tribe in Camp Verde Arizona. This work included presiding over criminal, civil, juvenile, regulatory and family law matters.
